Class 01 Mrs Proctor 2021 - 2022
Mrs Proctor
Welcome to Class 1
This is the homepage of class 1. We are a wonderful class of enthusiastic staff and most importantly our wonderful students! Every day (except for Wednesdays) Class 1 is taught by Mrs Proctor and supported every morning by our fabulous Teaching Assistant, Mrs Watson. On a Wednesday, Mrs Watson teaches Class 1, supported by Mr De Winter. We love having a chat with parents and we welcome this communication as your child's happiness, along with learning progress, is very important to us. However, in order to follow guidelines I would be most appreciative if you could contact me through Seesaw or arrange a telephone appointment in order to ensure I can focus on getting the children in to the classroom in the morning, and out to you at the end of the day, safely and swiftly in the interest of avoiding 'gathering' on the playground. Hopefully this will be a temporary measure and very soon we can get back to having those little chats at drop off and pick up!
Please see our timetable below. The classroom door opens at 8.45am which is when the children start either Early Bird Maths activities, consolidating the arithmetic they have learned in class. The door shuts at 8.55am ready for registration. Thank you for your support with adhering to these timelines. The timetable does change over the course of the year and we keep parents updated with these changes.
Maths, Literacy phonics and PHSCE are taught in the mornings. In the afternoon we teach our core subjects of Science and PE as well as the foundation subjects including Art, Engineering, Geography, History, Computing, Music and Spanish. On Tuesdays we are lucky enough to have a slot in the computing suite which is always a real highlight!

READING
We ask you read with your child five times per week, including reading to your child so they are exposed to a wider vocabulary which they are unable to yet access without being read to. Please record your child's reading in their yellow reading record, take a photo and submit this every Sunday evening so it includes that day's reading, or on Monday morning so it can be checked/recorded on a Monday and we can celebrate the children's ninja achievements...the children love this celebration of their reading! Reading is key to progression and I cannot stress enough how valuable it is to support your child with their reading...if you have any questions about reading please do contact me and I am more than happy to help. At the Quinta, we follow Read Write Inc, your child will have a book sent home every 3 days (depending on phonics group / cycle) to read for 3 nights (night one for decoding words, learning the meaning of unfamiliar words, night two for fluency and night three for comprehension and reading with expression) and return on the day requested by your phonics teacher. If the book isn't returned, the next book cannot be sent home. Thank you.
NUMERACY
The Quinta subscribe to Numbots which focuses on arithmetic and fluency. The children love this app and they have an avatar which they add to as they move up through the levels. Login details for TTR and Numbots will be sent home once they have been introduced to these games at school.
Homework: In summary, each week the children will be set spellings and reading homework (maths homework is optional and is to play on numbots - in the summer term this will switch to TTRockstars). My suggestion is read each day and spread homework out over the week. I do understand this is not always possible but please be aware trying to do all the homework at the weekend isn't always popular with the children! Please speak to me if you have any issues and we can come up with solutions together.
Thank you for reading our class 1 webpage and please do contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Mrs Proctor
