Growth Mindset

The above quote from Winston Churchill sums up part of what is meant by a Growth Mindset. At The Quinta we aim to teach the children, it is OK to make mistakes  or fail as this is all part of learning. Carol Dweck, a Professor of Psychology at Standford University has lead on the research and undersatdning of growth mind set.

Carol Dweck believes we can either have a fixed mindset where we let either failure or success define us or a growth mindset where we see setbacks as opportunities to grow and improve. When you were learning to walk how many times did you stumble? Despite thisyou kept on trying and used the stumbles as a learning block. It is acknowldged that most us can move between fixed and growth Mindsets.

We use the diagram below to show he children sometimes when learning it is like being in a pit but they can climb out the other side and will have a better understanding because they went through this experience.
