Physical Education and Sport Premium Funding at The Quinta Primary School

At The Quinta Primary School, we recognise the vital role that physical education plays in promoting the health, well-being, and personal development of every child. We are committed to delivering high-quality PE that inspires all pupils to succeed and enjoy being active.

Thanks to the Government’s PE and Sport Premium funding, we have been able to make significant and sustainable improvements to our PE provision. This funding has enabled us to:

  • Uplevel Staff Expertise: We have enhanced the skills and confidence of our teaching staff by working alongside specialists in a variety of sports to broaden our knowledge and teaching approaches. For example, Year 4 staff collaborated with Crewe Alexandra in the Community to deliver engaging handball sessions; Reception teachers developed their delivery of football with support from Goal Coaching; and all classes benefited from sessions with Bee Active , where they were introduced to new and exciting activities such as Quidditch.

  • Engage All Pupils: We have broadened our offer to ensure every child, regardless of ability or background, can participate in regular and inclusive physical activity. All children from Year 1 to Year 6 take part in three high-quality PE sessions each week, promoting fitness, skill development, and a lifelong love of being active.

  • Upgrade Equipment and Resources: Investing in high-quality sports equipment and resources has enhanced learning experiences and ensured pupils can take part in a wide range of sports safely and effectively. We have also ensured that our larger apparatus, such as our rebound fit trampolines, are regularly renewed and replaced to guarantee their continued use by the whole school.

  • Broaden Sporting Opportunities: We have introduced new sports and physical activities to spark interest and engagement, helping children discover new talents and enjoy varied experiences. This has included exciting additions such as combat dodgeball, Quidditch and handball - offering pupils the chance to try sports they may not otherwise experience.

  • Provide Targeted Provision: We have introduced specific initiatives to increase participation among girls and to support children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). This includes both inclusive participation in class PE lessons and additional tailored sessions designed to meet their individual needs.

  • Support Swimming Achievement: To ensure more pupils meet the National Curriculum swimming requirements by the end of Key Stage 2, we provided additional top-up swimming sessions for Year 6 children who needed extra support. These sessions helped pupils confidently swim 25 metres, use a range of strokes effectively, and develop essential self-rescue skills.

  • Extra-Curricular Clubs: We offer a wide range of sports clubs every term, led by both internal staff and external specialists, catering to all year groups. Participation levels are consistently high. Clubs are often oversubscribed, reflecting the enthusiasm and commitment of our pupils to stay active, to develop their skills beyond the curriculum and to represent Team Quinta.

  • Promote Competitive Sport: This year, we have entered the highest number of competitions in our school's history, giving pupils more opportunities than ever to represent The Quinta and take pride in their sporting achievements. We have participated in a wide range of sports, including hockey, tag rugby, girls' and boys' cricket, dodgeball, girls' and boys' football , netball, basketball, indoor and outdoor athletics, cross country and rounders. We ensure we take as many teams as possible to each event to maximise participation; for example, we took 42 children to enter the cricket competition at Congleton Cricket Club. We are especially proud to have reached the county finals in girls football, hockey and girls and boys' cricket. Furthermore, our girls’ football teams made it to two regional finals - the furthest the school has ever progressed in this sport, showcasing the dedication and talent of our pupils and staff.

  • Create Sustainable Impact: All our initiatives are carefully designed to have a lasting positive effect, embedding a culture of health, fitness, and active living across the whole school community. By equipping staff with ongoing expertise, investing in quality resources and fostering enthusiasm among pupils, we ensure that the benefits of the PE funding will continue to inspire and support healthy lifestyles for years to come.

We are proud of the positive impact this funding has had on our school community and remain committed to providing all our pupils with the very best opportunities to be active, healthy, and happy.
